- If the power light of the 1541 won't come on, then it doesn't have 5V.
- The CPU, VIAs, ROMs, alignment and all that crap have nothing to do with
- it since the power light is wired directly to the 5V supply though just
- one resistor.

- Moreover, loss of 5V is a common failure mode on the drive, as I've recently
- learned by fixing one and reading this group, and most likely caused by
- failure of one of the bridge rectifiers at the back of the board. This is
- easily fixed: You can get a new rectifier at Radio Shack. And you can
- check whether it's good by putting a voltmeter across its input terminals
- in AC mode and its output terminals in DC mode... (the DC reading should
- be greater than the RMS input reading, due to the filter caps.)
